Grounds Supervisor

Description

The Grounds Supervisor provides leadership, planning, and training for the groundskeeping crew in order to provide an attractive, safe, and functional outdoor environment at Columbia international University and Ben Lippen School.Ìý

Responsibilities

  • Plan daily work and assign tasks to groundskeepers, assisting them as needed.
  • Monitor expenses throughout the year.
  • Prepare and implement annual schedule for groundskeeping tasks.
  • Oversee the training of grounds keepers and student works.
  • Monitor the condition of grounds, sidewalks and driveways and take appropriate action to resolve issues.
  • Evaluate the appearance of grounds, plan and implement beautification projects.
  • Prepare and implement an equipment replacement plan.
  • Ensure that equipment is properly maintained.
  • Ensure that groundskeepers understand and practice safe work procedures and monitor equipment to ensure that all safety features are in place and functional.
  • Oversee the mixing and application of pesticides, and document their use per South Carolina regulations.
  • Be alert for safety issues and take appropriate action to resolve issues.
  • Be alert for security issues and report any suspicious activity to Security.
  • Submit work orders and oversee the completion of assigned work orders.
  • May be required to work overtime and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Ability to lead and motivate grounds crew.
  • The ability to communicate clearly, tactfully, and diplomatically.
  • The ability to view campus with an eye for detail.
  • The ability to receive orders and effectively delegate them.
  • The ability to plan and schedule tasks.
  • Knowledge and skill in using all types of groundskeeping equipment.
  • General knowledge in the repair of equipment.
  • The ability to use heavy equipment such as a backhoe, tractor and dump truck.
  • Ability to use groundskeeping pesticides safely.
  • Must have a valid South Carolina Commercial Pesticide Applicators License.
